Phoenix get back to .500 with Win over Mayhem
The Wilmot Phoenix got back to even keel with a 34-22 win over the still winless Milton Mayhem. This is not to insinuate that the game was easy, Milton is a pilgrimage in the GFL, and getting a full squad to the game is difficult. The Phoenix held a 20-0 lead at halftime, and if not for a last second TD by the Mayhem, kept thier foot on the Mayhem's throat the entire second half. The Phoenix opened the game with a 'Thunder and Lightning' approach, sending both Nick Weiss and Trion Brown into the endzone in the first half, furthering the point that the Phoenix's running game is definately one of the top in the GFL. Ryan Schuk also added a TD pass, his first in two weeks, adding to the spread and effectively ending the game. Giving the Mayhem credit, in the second half they came out to play. Driving a few times, Milton used thier quickness at QB to drive home the point that this team could be a threat if they only could put a few things together. Both Weiss and Brown both added TD scores in thesecond half, both from deep, as the Phoenix were able to put the game out of reach far before the Mayhem drove the length of the field to put the ball in the endzone with two seconds left.
The Phoenix will now head to Chicago to continue thier road trip against the Chaos. These teams are perfect foils for each other and they will be rivals for the forseeable future.
