Inside the Website - Player Cards

By Adam Knoll | December 15, 2009 at 03:46 PM EST | No Comments

As our first contracts get signed, I find it is important to keep guys up to date on whats going on with the site. I basically live here, changing things at least once a day. Some are cosmetic, others are substantial as it gives our site more flexibility, better navigation, or more information to our players, fans, rivals and curious folk who just are poking around.

With the first wave of contracts being signed, I thought it was about time to introduce our Player Cards, which I did last season when I was part of the Storm. Last year, I put them all out in the front, giving them their own sub-scroll down and everything. This season will be a little different.

If you go to the Roster page, or the Player Experience page, you will find that some of the names are actually links that lead to a page of that player. The reasoning for this page is simple, we look to highlight those who give dedication and commitment to this team. On this page will go a general back-story (previous years stats, years in the league, other playing experience, and a small bio if they would like to write one), all that players pictures from the season (practices, pre-season and season), game stats and awards won during the year. As the season comes around our stat page and award polls will crank up, and the links to player pages will be there as well.

Basically, with everything I do for either this site or the league site (which is less than a month away!), I do because I try to think of what would I really like to see if I just joined a team? I would want general news and a schedule to look forward to, a blog to read, and a depth chart, roster, and a page about me. For the league site I want to see power rankings, and reporting on week to week things, game previews and recaps and polls.  These are things I would want if I were giving so much of myself to a team, and a league. That’s why the site is so huge, and that’s why I do what I do.

Now, the Players Cards don’t come free, you need to be a member of the active roster to get one, which means a player fee is required.  Come the next few months, guys will pay up more and more of their fees and you will see more and more of the roster coming together.  As the time goes by just remember, March comes quickly, and we will be going from stagnant to full bore within a week. You don’t want to be caught unprepared.

The End of November

By Adam Knoll | December 01, 2009 at 01:47 AM EST | No Comments

The end of November brings about the chill of snows and the wait until spring. As expected, November brought the team’s momentum to a halt, as we did have two practices, yet ended physical activities around mid-month. Book work has been slow going, but we have managed to hold a board meeting and have begun our offensive meeting schedule. Defensive meetings and more regular board meetings will have to be set up.

December brings about the end of 2009 and the true beginning of our franchise. At the end of this month the 2010 schedule will truly begin as our inaugural season will begin in earnest. In December, we will try to hold at least two fundraisers, an indoor practice and hopefully two offense meetings, along with some defensive ones as well. Look for a defensive add on to our study. It will again be a slow month, yet team activities will start to move faster.

We are a new team and need fundraising help. If you know of anyone who would like to sponsor a football franchise, please get a hold of them or let me know. Flyers will be made up and available by the offensive meeting on Dec 9th, and we would like to get a good long look at many players during our indoor schedule. Keep working out, keep doing mental preparations as March will be upon us sooner than you think.
