Couple of mentions here, before we move on:
No week 4 tally - Getting shutout didnt really speak to well toward handing out awards.
No week 5 tally - Havent played the Week 5 game; cant hand them out yet.
So, lets get on with it.
Top Offense:
Ryne Johnsen: Has been under the radar almost all season, yet is emerging as a valuable threat as the season goes along
Top Defense:
Andrew Menard: Plays hard both ways, had a terrific game defensively making multiple open field tackles.
Top Reserve:
Chris Smith: First Game of the season, played both sides and really made up for some of the deficiencies the team had recently encountered.
Top Play: Catching a jump ball is hard enough, running through the tackle as your falling back down is tougher, and outrunning everyone on top of it was exhausting. Put the Phoenix back within 6 points before the Sabers pulled away late.
The other 8:
Quarterback:
Dan Mikal: Even though it was his first start, Mikal had over a games worth of experience already this year (half the Gators game and more than half of the Premier game). Played well and truly didn’t hurt the club late in the game.
Running Back:
Trion Brown: Every time he touches the ball, he seems to fly. It’s too bad he plays defense so well
Wide Receiver:
Ryne Johnsen: Emerging right when the team needed him. He was the trigger in the Cougars game, and after losing some key players, he is filling the spot next to Kyle Ritter very nicely.
Offensive Lineman:
Adam Peterson: Might be a cliché, but it’s really nice to see a new guy come out and play well with so little time to prepare. He gets this for simply holding his own.
Defensive Lineman:
TJ Dotson: He ran the Sabers much ballyhooed running back down from behind twice, once in each half. Both times he had to run over 20 yards to get there. Additionally, his pressure up the middle is hard to duplicate
Linebacker:
Chris Bella: Very nice stat line for the defenses leader.
Defensive Back:
Trion Brown: Missed a pick in the second half that would have gone for a score. However, sometimes he single handedly handles the entire secondary.
Hustle
Andrew Menard: Could honestly be the last double sided player we have, only off the field for maybe two series’ total.
The Final Tally - Week 3 [ edit | delete ]

To be honest, after a game like that it’s hard to hand out awards; however, as lopsided as the score was, there still was plenty of heart to go around. Statistically, the game wasn’t nearly as ugly as the final tally finished up with.
Top Offense: Ronnie Orr
The offense had some nice performances, yet Orr’s running was the bright spot of the night. 95 yards against the Lynx’s frontline is no joke, and it shows what we can be when we are staying technically sound.
Top Defense: Trion Brown
Trion got beat deep in the second half, right in a situation the defense just had to get off the field. We all thought he played the ball poorly, and I think he knew it too. The next 3 passes thrown his way: Pass Defended (in the end-zone), Pass Defended (in the end-zone), Interception in the red-zone. Brown makes up for his mistakes in bunches.
Top Reserve: Andrew Menard
Menard is truly only a reserve on defense, yet he took over for Nic Purtee mid way through the first half and did a real nice job. He’s learning that playing two ways is no joke, however, he has yet to let it overcome him.
Top Play: Hector Carrasco
In earnest, for pure emotional value, I really liked that on the play Nic Purtee got injured on, he caused a fumble. It speaks to who he is and how he tackles. However, Carrasco caught the only score we had, and it truly lifted us as a group. If we don’t score at the end of the 1st, we don’t get that momentum shift that we enjoyed later. Not only that, but his catch was a thing of beauty.
The other Eight:
Quarterback: None – I refuse to hand out an award to a position that played so far under par
Running Back – Ronnie Orr: Even though D’Angelo Richardson played well in a spot start, Orr is the engine that grinds.
Wide Receiver – Hector Carrasco: Another 6 catches, is always reliable and has a real knack for making the big catch at the right time
Offensive Lineman – David Haywood: Can you play Tackle? Yes sir. Can you handle Center? Yes sir. How about some Tight End? Yes sir. And he dominated every single one of them.
Defensive Lineman – TJ Dotson: He was rusty, he forgot to contain at some points, yet he had some huge tackles late in the game, and he finally proved himself to those who hadn’t seen him before.
Linebacker – Chris Bella: led the team in tackles and is always the constant the defense relies upon.
Defensive Back – Trion Brown: Played well, only got beat once and it never came back to haunt us. The Corner position has been in turmoil since Linkowski got hurt, but Trion is always accountable.
Hustle – David Haywood: I almost went Dan Lowes here…but I can’t snub Haywood of an award he could easily win every single week.
