Final Tally - Pre-season Game [ edit | delete ]

The Awards for the pre-season game we just played are finished, and as predicted, there were multiple players who won multiple awards. Three players won two or more awards, they are:
Trion Brown: Defensive Back, Top Defensive Player, Top Play
Ronnie Orr: Running Back, Top Offensive Player
Dan Mikal: Quarterback, Top Reserve
As also predicted, that’s 7 of our 12 awards; meaning only 8 players were recognized this week. As with every week, there will be a player or two who just missed out and didn’t get one, and this week that player is Cody Sisk, who was a beast of a man this weekend. He led the team with 6 tackles and really played well despite not starting, and missing so much practice. Overall, the Top Reserve award came down to one vote, which Mikal won 6-5.
David Haywood also go snubbed a bit, and surprisingly too. He lost out to Brown in two different categories, Top D Player, and Top Play. I would expect the polls to continue to be interesting all the way through the season. We have a lot of good players, all whom have a pride about them. It will be entertaining the rest of the way.
Scorpions Pre-season awards (Apr 24th) [ edit | delete ]

As During the Season, I’ll give out Pre-Season Awards as well so everybody can see how they work. There are a total of 12, yet 8 of them are handed out by me. I figure, not every award should be voted on, sometimes, the better player will lose out over the more spectacular play. So, just to avoid 89seperate polls, I decided to take those for myself. However, 4 polls are left completely open, and those are the ones I feel people will take more to heart if they win.
The regular awards that I hand out personally will be in white, the 4 polls that are voted on will be in our teal. All awards will be posted on the awards page, as well as in your personal page should you win one. Some of our awards are more statistics based, or based upon the numbers you put up. Others are more of an achievement type (i.e. who stood out the most with their hustle?). Some may say 12 is too many, yet I tend to disagree. They aren’t 12 separate awards and everybody wins one. It is very conceivable that one player wins as many as 4 or 5 even in any given week. For this pre-season game, I tried to spread it out a bit, yet you will see multiple players win more than one, and that’s fine. If a player is completely stellar that week, good for them.
Our Categories:
Quarterback
Running Back
Wide Receiver
Offensive Lineman
Defensive Lineman
Linebackers
Defensive Back
Hustle Award
Top Play
Top Reserve
Top Offensive Player
Top Defensive Player
Each week I will explain why I chose who I chose for the first 8 awards, I think it only fair if I did. However, the last 4 will need no explanation, your fellow teammates and fans will be the deciders there, and I think that’s good enough.
Quarterback: Dan Mikal
Neither Quarterback in this game played poorly, in fact, both had a 70% completion rate and a TD. However, Mikal went down field, and had some really nice numbers. He ran the offense well and for his first game in pads, he solidified his position without any doubters now.
Running Back: Ronnie Orr
3TD’s, over 13 ypc, almost 150 yards total. That speaks for itself. What doesn’t however: He did that in barely over half a game.
Wide Receiver: Hector Carrasco
This was the 2nd toughest award this week to hand out. He and Jeff Thorpe both had nice games (considering there were only 11 balls thrown total), and both made really nice catches. Thorpe had a great diving grab late in the first half for a first down, and a nice long catch later in the game. However, Carrasco had two catches as well, one for a first down and the other tip toeing the corner of the end zone for a TD. That was enough to win this week.
Offensive Lineman: Tim Thornton
Tim had never played Center before he came to the Phoenix. In fact, he was a defensive end by trade, one the Cougars cut because he didn’t fit in their rotation. Well, we have him, and he’s worked his tail off, and in his first game he directed the O-Line and rarely made any mistakes. For his first game in a new spot against a fairly high percentage blitzing team, he was stellar.
Defensive Lineman: David Haywood
He was going to win either O or D Lineman this week, and with Thornton really performing well, then Haywood takes this spot. With at least one sack, and a bunch of other disruptions and tackles, he was easily the dominant force on the line.
Linebacker: Nick Weiss
I almost split this one, yet I made a deal to myself not to split awards anymore. Between Chris Bella and Nick Weiss…how do you decide that one? Both were supreme, both had fumble recoveries, both lit up the Scorpions QB’s and both dominated at Linebacker. So I had a real problem with this one…but then it came down to stats, and Weiss’s fumble recovery scored points, and Bella’s came a yard short. If Bella could have taken his in, it would have been Bella’s award, alas.
Defensive Back: Trion Brown
Next to Orr’s RB award, this one was just as easy. Tackling didn’t used to be Brown’s specialty, but now he thrives on it. And the hit he laid out in the first half…good lord. Brown has become an elite Corner thanks to his new found mean streak.
Hustle Award: Andrew Menard
He played Tight End and Outside Linebacker about as good as anyone could expect, played hard all game, caught a long pass, should have gotten credit for a safety and opened up the hole for Orr’s first play 70 yard scamper. A good day indeed.
